![]() Julius Caesar can be seen as a good and bad person. Nearly every one of Caesar’s actions were portrayed in a good way to the public, but they were often evil in every way. Their times, they basically controlled the world. Both were cunning, cruel and merciless, and both were dictators, and had huge amounts of power. ![]() They both killed massive amounts of people, simply because of their race or religion, or in Caesar’s case, just because he wanted the land they lived in. Looking back on Caesar’s actions, you can make a lot of comparisons between him and Adolf Hitler. He was ruthless, and although to the ancient Romans that made him a hero, by today’s standards he was downright evil. He attacked native tribes and wiped them all out, one by one, claiming the land that they had inhabited. He was a womanizer and a strict military leader. He sent people to be in his gladiator games for disobeying even the slightest command, and he killed hundreds of millions of people. He spent way too much money on creating various games for the plebeians and created an unrest in Rome. He was disrespectful of his elders, and all those around him. On the other hand, Caesar was cunning and cruel. He claimed that he always had Rome’s best interests in mind whatever action he took, and he ultimately made Rome a better place. Negative traits and condemnable actions of Caesar Caesar was said to have wept at the sight of Pompey’s head, saying that Pompey was a formidable rival and that he did not deserve such a death. When he arrived in Egypt after the Egyptians had killed his rival Pompey, the Egyptians brought Caesar the head of his old rival. He spent his time creating games such as lavish gladiator games and other forms of entertainment to keep the people happy, and he expanded the Roman Empire by nearly a third of its original size. On the one hand, Caesar always did his best to please the people of Rome. What Caesar did as a good leader to please Roman people Caesar was a bad leader because he did many things that were either cruel or for selfish reasons such as chieving support and rising in power in Rome. So many people have different opinions, and it is hard to say who is wrong and who is right. But there is one thing about Caesar that we don’t know for sure, and maybe we never will. These things we all know to be one hundred percent true. He was a friend to the people, but the senate saw him as a threat. He was the hero of Rome and the enemy of all that opposed it. Proud, ambitious, clever, cunning, strong-willed and minded, and charismatic. Is Julius Caesar really a hero? Gaius Julius Caesar had many traits.

These guys are from Flint, Michigan, and they have always veered toward the soulful. Not a lot of thinking to do - just kick back and enjoy. Back in vinyl days, we often just listened to Side Two, which begins with “I Don’t Have to Sing the Blues.” This is just a joyous tune in the trio’s hands, a lot of fun. After a second wah-wah run, the wailing chorus of “gotta get it together” does a call-and-response with Farner’s vocal. Farner also plays some nice wah-wah guitar about two minutes in, then Schacher and Brewer take off before Farner enters on organ. The tempo picks up for the electric piano solo.Įlectric piano introduces “Get It Together,” primarily an instrumental with a chorus at the end. It sounds like Farner is playing electric piano, and Brewer really stands out here. The album’s only ballad is “Mean Mistreater,” offering more nice harmonies. A second tempo change is also interesting, more nice work from Schacher. “Nothing is the Same” plods along through the opening sequence before a great tempo change shoves it into overdrive and another distortion-filled Farner solo. Schacher runs some nice bass lines, and the by-now well-known harmonies of Farner and Brewer are on display. Schacher’s bass drones underneath Farner’s distorted lead guitar. CLOSER TO HOMEĭon’t let that soft acoustic guitar fool you it gets blown away by power rock in “Sin’s a Good Man’s Brother.” Brewer’s drumming is long on power and sometimes short on technique, but it always delivers the desired effect. The group and early albums were produced by Terry Knight. The group at the time - and for the majority of their career - were Mark Farner, guitar, electric piano, organ, vocals, harmonica Mel Schacher, bass and Don Brewer, drums, vocals. GFRR’s first radio success came with the single version of “I’m Your Captain,” the real opus on Closer to Home. Grand Funk inside cover – MSG 02.13.70 – Photo by Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images Interestingly, one of their best albums came out in 1976, Good Singin’, Good Playin’, under the tutelage of Frank Zappa. But we digress. Todd Rundgren helped them to great commercial success with We’re an American Band in 1973. The next albums were good but just didn’t have the gravitas of the 1969-1970 releases. In quick succession they popped out four albums, begin with their 1969 debut On Time, then three albums in 1970: the red-cover Grand Funk, Closer to Home, and Live Album (recorded in Jacksonville and West Palm Beach). Sure, everybody can sing “We’re an American Band,” and that made them a lot of money, but their real gig was head-smashing, brain-numbing thunder rock - exactly what we loved about them. 6/1/2023 0 Comments Oprah aha moment![]() Oprah had some devastating early setbacks in her career, but that one concept allowed her to move forward with greater clarity. In her article about what an Aha! moment really means to Oprah, Samantha Vicente explains that you can pave the way for a moment of insight by staying open to what you can learn from life's curveballs. Merriam-Webster defined it as “a moment of sudden realization, inspiration, insight, recognition, or comprehension.” She later explained it further as “a moment of insight into yourself-and one that hits on something that, on some level, you already understood.” The way she sees it, it’s “a resonating with what is somehow buried or suppressed." But she definitely popularized the expression, and because of her, it made it into the dictionary in 2012. I had always assumed she had coined the phrase for her lightbulb moments, but to my surprise, it goes back to the early 1900s, depending on what reference you consult. Oprah was famous for her “Aha!” moments when interviewing experts. And then, suddenly, it comes into our awareness. Metaphorically, it made me think of the many times in life when something is right there in front of us, plain as day, but we don’t see it until the right circumstances arise or someone brings it to our attention. It was curious to us that the prints were only visible in certain lighting. Our little guys have appetites the size of Texas, and often place one hand on the freezer side for leverage as they pull the fridge door open with their right hand so they can survey the snack and drink choices. There they were, multiple prints on our side-by-side stainless steel fridge. It was in the evening, and I had turned on a kitchen light I don’t typically use. The other day, weeks after their last visit, I noticed some we’d missed. We usually spend the day putting all the toddler equipment away and wiping fingerprints off all the surfaces they can reach. On the other hand, we start missing them the moment we wave goodbye from the porch, knowing it may be months before we see them again. On the one hand, since we’re night owls and the little ones are always up by 6:30 a.m., by the time they go we’re usually anxious for a little R&R. The day our grandsons leave after a visit always brings conflicting emotions. “With an open mind, we gain insight into ideas and expressions that we may have overlooked or not noticed at all.” 6/1/2023 0 Comments Mattermost text formattingThey’ve compared hybrid emails (referred to as plain-text) and various types of HTML emails. HubSpot did their own A/B testing and came to some interesting conclusions. We’ll look at how the different emails performed in terms of open rates and clicks. Still HTML, so some email clients may not handle it well.Message still appears personal and handwritten.Too many HTML elements may be linked to placement in spam and promotions folders.Images and graphics may be blocked by default in some email clients. Some email clients and devices don’t handle HTML well (if at all) resulting in a jumble of code.Call to actions can be made more prominent with buttons, fancy formatting, and more.Colors, graphics, and formatting can be used, adding visual appeal and highlighting products.Harder to make call to actions stand out.Significantly decreased ability to track emails sent. Some devices like the apple watch handle plain text better than HTML.The message appears to be more personal, and not automated. All email clients display plain text emails the same, ensuring consistent delivery. Now that we have an understanding of each type of email, let’s take a look at the pros and cons. We’ll call these hybrid emails because even though they are not exactly a plain text email, they do imitate plain text emails. They’ll feature no or very minimal use of graphics and simple text formatting. ![]() These emails will actually be HTML, but are designed in a way that they appear to be sent as if coming from a colleague or friend. Now, it’s important to note that many mistakenly call HTML emails with minimal formatting plain text emails. Let’s start by taking a quick look at the differences between plain text emails and HTML emails. The simplest explanation is that an HTML will contain images and colors while a plain text email contains no images, no graphics, and no formatting. HTML vs Plain Text: What’s the Difference? In this blog post, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about plain text and HTML emails, and help you choose the right format for your email. But, there is a right answer, and it’s not quite as clear cut as many would hope. It’s a debate that’s been going on for more than a decade, with many swearing by either side.
